In 2006 I took a 6 week trip through Indonesia which at that stage was the biggest journey I’d ever been on. I was with my then wife and we asked the question, “Why can’t it be like this forever?” “Can’t we just set up shop here?”
At that stage, we made a commitment to change our lives. Some people just quit their jobs and go for it, but because of financial anxiety I developed a financial plan that would see us retire in 10 years. Once we had that focus, pieces of the puzzle fell into place in an unbelievable fashion and we decided to exit the workforce in 2009, 7 years earlier than expected.
As with all grand adventures, there have been many ups and downs and a lot of soul-searching. We went separate ways in early 2010 to continue our adventures independently.
I never again want to take my life for granted. I want to live more mindfully, interact with others more thoughtfully and be a good person.
I call my blog Sit Down Disco – an indication of the pace of change that I want to undergo over the coming time. The purpose of this blog is and always will be this:
To document a journey and share some of my experiences
They call me Adam, but you can call me Adam.
