Crema Koffie Bandung

Crema Koffie, Bandung: Small Coffee Shop Worth Trying

Tucked in a small building on Jalan Sultan Tirtayasa, Crema Koffie is a very simple coffee shop serving up a small selection of coffee and non-coffee drinks and a couple of pastries.

It’s not the sort of place you come to for gourmet food & luxurious surrounds — but it is the sort of place you come to nongkrong, open a laptop for an hour or so and have a good coffee.Crema Coffeeshop BandungI ordered a magic which tasted good, well-textured milk, but was slightly on the cool side. That’s a common complaint across Bandung these days it seems — under-steamed milk.

Susan’s mojito lemon came with a metal straw which was a nice touch but was otherwise unremarkable.Coffee At Crema Koffie BandungWifi here runs at a fairly speedy 20mbps down & up and there a bunch of electricity sockets around the place. In my experience, the backless seats become uncomfortable after about half an hour, so don’t plan on spending all day here on your laptop.Crema Koffie Coffeeshop BandungAll in all a decent little no frills coffee shop.

Semi Outdoor At Papatong Cafetaria

Papatong Cafeteria, Bandung: Fantastic Coffee and a Unique Fitout

I was actually a little bit skeptical when I rolled up at this place as it was dead. But it seems that was just an issue of timing as not long after I arrived, so did many others which made the cafe feel a bit more lively.

The cafe is a cross between open air food court, cafe and restaurant. And although it sounds odd, it really works well. A bunch of kiosks offer up an assortment of meals and drinks and you can enjoy them in a mixture of outdoor seating, semi-outdoor and indoor.Papatong Cafe BandungThe style of these seating areas in an old Javanese style with colourful tiles, old chairs and a “joglo”. I sat here on my laptop for about 3 hours and felt completely comfortable. Wifi is fast at 18mbps down and 19mbps up and there are electricity sockets at most tables. It’s a top little spot for working.Papatong Cafetaria BandungI ordered a couple of cappuccinos and they came in old school tin cups. Flavour was great. I also ordered a nasi goreng which I really enjoyed. Susan’s iced coffee came in a plastic container which was disappointing, but the flavour was very good.Coffee At Papatong CafetariaDespite being a little skeptical about this place, it turned into a really good place to relax and work. Definitely recommended if you need a bite to eat, a spot of wifi and a good coffee.Nasi Goreng At Papatong

Daily Routine Bandung

Daily Routine Espresso Bar Gandapura, Bandung: Tiny Coffee Shop!

We’re getting a bit bored with many of the new coffee shops in Bandung because some are getting a bit lazy. But not here at Daily Routine. They’re keeping things fresh with great coffee, cozy fitout and good working spaces.

I got a cappuccino, Susan got an iced latte. Both were excellent with my cappuccino restoring my faith in Bandung coffee once again.Coffee At Daily Routine Espresso BarSusan’s iced coffee came in a proper glass with no straw. I am shocked — in a good way. I absolutely love that they’re going against the trend of single use plastic for iced coffees.

The wifi here is quite fast at 10mbps down and 21mbps up and definitely a good speed for uploading YouTube videos. There are plenty of electricity sockets for plugging your laptop into and a couple of reasonable spots for working.Daily Routine Espresso BarIn the middle of the day, the seat out the front are exposed to the full force of the sun and aren’t very useful but they do come to life at night when the sun isn’t a problem.

Searah Coffee Bandung

Searah, Bandung: Strange Atmosphere, But Good Coffee

Up the top end of Jalan Sukajadi is Searah, presumably named after the one way road out the front.

I came here for a coffee and Susan a tea. The cappuccino was excellent with perfect temperature and milk texture and there was little to fault about it.Coffee At SearahThe fitout if the cafe is odd. It’s really plain with massive empty brown walls and a mish mash of furniture. It really needs the eye of an interior designer to make it look a bit more cozy.Bandung Coffeeshop SearahThere are few tables to work on here and the wifi runs at about 24mbps down 65mbps up. In other words, incredibly fast uploads for those massive YouTube projects. This connection should be able to handle anything you can throw at it.Searah BandungThe coffee at Searah is really good, but as we know, good coffee is not all that matters in a coffee shop. I really hope that as time goes by they can improve the interior design and ambience of the shop.

Koma Coffee Bandung Bagian Atas

Koma Coffee, Bandung: Very Good Coffee in a Comfortable Shop

I really didn’t know what to expect before coming to Coffee Koma except that it was a small coffee shop in a fairly central area in Dago. So I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered a laid back coffee shop serving fantastic coffee.

The coffee shop has 2 floors and I chose the top floor because it’s bright, airy and really well designed. I love the wooden benches, white walls, plants and especially the amount of natural light that enters. I took up the bench facing the windows and spent a few hours just tapping away on my computer without even feeling like I was here for long.Koma Coffee Bandung UpstairsLikewise, the coffee went down a treat. Smooth, not too strong, served in a proper cup. Susan’s iced mocha was delicious and one of the best iced drink she’s had in Bandung.Koma Coffee Bandung MinumanThe wifi in the upstairs area is a little hard to connect to because the router is located downstairs. But once you’ve connected, it’s fine. I was getting 6mbps down and 13mbps up which is fine for youtube and the like, but didn’t really work too well when I was trying to make a video call. I believe that sitting downstairs would allow a much more stable and faster connection.Koma Coffee Bandung Latte ArtThere are lots of places to sit and open your laptop and there are electricity sockets everywhere. Prices are around about average for Bandung.Koma Coffee Bandung DownstairsI’m a fan of Koma Coffee and it’s definitely somewhere worth checking out if you’re in Dago.

Ngopi At Kopi Alit Bandung

Kopi Alit, Bandung: Tasty Coffee in this Small Coffee Shop in an Alley

I really love this coffee shop. Not only because it’s cute, small and peaceful but also because it’s run by an enthusiastic young woman in a city dominated by coffee shops run by men. It’s proof that women can operate coffee shops as good as or if not better than men.

The fitout of the shop is lovely — small, cozy, clean white walls with handmade wooden stools. There’s a little outdoor area for those wanting to smoke and drink coffee.Coffee At Kopi Alit BandungI had a cappuccino and Susan had an iced coffee. Both were fantastic. And what’s better, the prices were so low — one of the cheapest espresso-based coffees in Bandung made from a proper machine. Susan particularly liked the taste of her iced coffee because it didn’t just taste like sweet milk, like many iced coffees in Bandung. It had real depth of flavour.Kopi Alit Coffee Shop BandungThe cappuccino wasn’t a strong one and my preference would be to have a double shot next time. Still, the flavour was great, the temperature bang on and the milk textured perfectly.

The WiFi here is really quite fast at 16mbps down and 17mbps up — your youtube video is going to upload really fast! There isn’t a lot of space to work here, but you could open your laptop for an hour so if you needed to, especially outside.Kaya Toast At Kopi AlitOne last point is about access. Kopi Alit is in a narrow gang only accessible by foot and motorbikes. Cars have to either park on Jalan Pagarsih or Jalan Cibadak and then walk. We actually like this a lot. It gives the place a bit more a “hidden gem” feel and definitely makes it feel a lot more low-key and not so flashy like so many other new coffee shops in Bandung.Kopi Alit BandungKopi Alit is the new low-key coffee hang out in Bandung and we love it.

Teman Lama Coffee Shop Bandung

Teman Lama, Bandung: Great Place for Hanging Out with Old Friends

We absolutely love old buildings, especially when they’re treated with care and restored to their former beauty. Teman Lama is one such place where the insides have been stripped out and replaced with a modern fitout while keeping the original structure. It looks great!

I had a cappuccino and Susan had an iced coffee and both were excellent. The cappuccino was strong, had silky smooth milk and was severed in a tulip cup. The iced coffee was strong, flavoursome and perfect for a hot day. It’s the 3rd iced coffee in a row from Bandung coffee shops which has been strong and we really love this trend.Bersama Teman Lama Cafe BandungThe food here is quite simple, but also very good. The Nasi Bakar Kencur was excellent — lots of bumbu, crispy chicken and tempe. Yore’s chicken had the potential to be bland and uninteresting, but it turned out to be tasty with the diced tomato cutting through the creaminess of the mayo. Coffee At Teman LamaThere are plenty of places to open your laptop and the chairs are comfortable enough to sit at for a few hours. Just make sure you have enough battery as the electricity sockets are limited. WiFi here was running at 22mbps down and 7mbps up when we were there and the cafe was half full.Food At Teman LamaBersama Teman Lama BandungThis is a fantastic new modern cafe on the Bandung scene with reasonable prices, high quality and a fresh look. Sudut Kopi Coffee Shop Bandung

Sudut Kopi, Bandung: Excellent Coffee in a Tiny Nongkrong Spot

Sudut Kopi is a name that has been around for a while and was originally at a different location. The new location is fairly central and right next door to a hostel, so you’re likely to see a few bule around from time to time.

The coffee here is excellent. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much because they serve all their drinks in single use containers which shits me no end (last time I visited they used a proper cup for the coffee). But fair’s fair and they do pump out very good coffee. In fact, the iced coffee was one of the best I’ve had because it has a strong coffee flavour unlike most in Bandung which taste like sweetened milk.Coffeeshop Bandung Sudut KopiThe coffee shop is very small with most of the seats out the front meaning it’s smoker friendly. It’s a good little hang out spot.Kopi SudutWorking here isn’t really possible because they don’t yet have WiFi, but it might be possible to snag onto the hotel’s WiFi across the road (ask the staff).Sudut Kopi BandungPrices here are very low for coffee of this standard. You get a proper espresso machine producing your coffee for Rp18.000. I don’t think it gets much cheaper than this in Bandung. What’s more, they had a promo and I only had to pay Rp15.000 for my cappuccino!Kopi Sudut BandungFantastic coffee at Sudut Kopi but a bit of a shame about the single use cups. Fix that and this place is a winner.

Kuro Coffee Ciumbuleuit, Bandung: Good Coffee in a Fantastic Old House

We absolutely loved the original Kuro Coffee because of its cozy nature, so just had to try their new outlet. Strangely, it’s nothing like the original, but should we be concerned?

A little bit. A lot of the character of the original shop is gone in Ciumbuleuit and you’re left with a rather quiet, empty space. This is primarily due to how massive the cafe is and how few people were there when we visited.Kuro Koffee BandungThe cafe is in the house of the owner on Jalan Ciumbuleuit and it’s a glorious old architect-designed building with lots of nice touches such as the massive sliding doors and shallow staircase to the upper floor.

Being in Ciumbuleuit and with lots of open windows, the building stays cool naturally. There is a lot of seating space here. So much that it would take a really large crowd to fill it. The good thing is that you can come here if you need some peace and quiet.Back Garden Kuro Koffee BandungThe outdoor area is a luxury in Bandung and the garden could serve as a great place for people wanting to lounge on beanbags and happily there are a few.

For those needing to work, there is an abundance of good tables and so many electricity sockets. The wifi here is one of the fastest in Bandung at 60mbps down and 70mbps up — fast enough for absolutely any task you have.Coffee At Kuro Koffee BandungI asked for a magic and it was offered to me in a demitasse cup which is traditionally used for a piccolo latte. Thankfully the staff suggested I could also have it in their standard sized cup which made the ratio a little more magic… but herein lies the problem. The magic was so named because it was supposed to be a magic ratio of milk and coffee. And this means there is only one sized cup that can ever be used.Pancakes Kuro Koffee BandungThe food here has some good aspects. I tried the torikatsu don and the soufflé pancakes. The pancakes were very blonde, nothing like a soufflé pancake and contained exactly 5 berries. 1 strawberry sliced really thin and 4 local blackberries (perhaps mulberries) – it was really stingy in my view. It was extremely disappointing.Food Drinks Kuro Koffee BandungThe torikatsu don was interesting and delicious. We appreciated that a bit of thought had gone into the slaw to make it flavoursome and we also really loved the colour on the fried chicken. Yum!

So while Kuro in Ciumbuleuit feels quiet because of how big a space it is, we really think the coffee is good and definitely worth a try. We also recommend coming here if you need to get work done. A good cafe on the Bandung scene that needs to improve those pancakes.

Yumaju 2.0 Manado Bandung

Yumaju 2.0 Jalan Menado, Bandung: One of the Very Best Coffee Shops in Bandung

This is the second outlet of the extremely popular Yumaju coffee shop which opened a couple of years back and it keeps the slick operating principles of the original shop going strong.

I was never a great fan of the original Yumaju primarily because it was always so busy when I went there. Yet, they do have fantastic coffee and some yummy pastries. And so it is with this new location. Great coffee, tasty pastries but a much better location in my view.

The shop itself is quite small, but they have only put 3 tables in there which means there is a limit to the number of people who will cram in at one time. This is a good thing.Yumaju Coffee 2 BandungWhat most people love is the outdoor area which is large and shaded by some massive trees.
