With so many expensive coffee shops in Bandung doing great coffee, we sometimes wonder why people aren’t trying to tap into the cheaper market by producing great coffee at a great price. 9/1/1 Coffee Lab fits the bill perfectly by doing great tasting coffee for a price with is half what you often pay elsewhere.
Located in small building on Jalan Saparua, 9/1/1 Coffee Lab (sometimes written 911 Coffee Lab) has as many seats outside as inside. This means that if you’re a smoker, there are plenty of places to sit back, have a coffee and a cigarette. Inside or outside. This also means that if you hate smoking, you probably won’t like this place.
The drinks we had were good, but quite a distance from the best in Bandung. That said, they were better than we had in our recent 2 week trip through Europe which generally has bad coffee.
My cappuccino was made manually without an espresso machine. The coffee was good, but I’m afraid it was too cold. Only lukewarm. Still, worth every cent I paid given it’s so cheap.
At Rp16.000, it’s one of the cheapest milk based coffees in Bandung and certainly the best at this price point. Perhaps why the cafe seems to be so popular.
The menu has a range of typical snacks such as pisang goreng for good prices.
If you’re price conscious but still like good coffee, come here. It’s really good.
Wifi barely worked when I visited.

I ordered a cappuccino and it was excellent. Silky milk, extremely strong coffee taste and quite hot. At Rp23.000, it was a bargain. Especially because it’s made with an espresso machine (not common at this price point).
Susan’s iced lemon tea was just normal. Nothing special there except 2 slices of Indonesian lemon/lime.
Wifi here is very fast. I clocked download at 15mbps and uploads at 21mbps. That was with a bunch of school kids on laptops upstairs doing who knows what with the wifi (surfing porn). It’s fast and that is a massive bonus.
Food options range from snacks such as tahu with chilli all the way through to pizza and spaghetti. Good one.
I really like this place. Good quality, cheap, good environment and fast wifi. A great combo that makes this place a winner in my eyes.
On the lower floor there are a couple of swings for children and we noticed that this was a selling point for some customers who were happy to have a second coffee while their kids played.
Firstly I have to say that the magic was sensational and I’d happily come here again for that. I’d even highly recommend it to my friends it was so good. The lime ginger tea was tasty, but Susan couldn’t really taste the ginger.
Now onto the food. Bandung cafe food has traditionally been very poor. But recently there have been a few cafes trying to do better and they’re now charging high prices for it. But for high prices, we expect quality. And to be honest, the quality still doesn’t justify the price. And Marka, sadly, is no differently
I sort of expected the sandwich to be edible with my hands, but that wasn’t possible mainly because it was extremely wet and the chicken was chopped into tiny pieces. Perhaps I should have asked first, but I was kind of expecting a big chunk of grilled chicken. I think that would have been preferable. All in all, nice components, but not a dish I could recommend.
Perhaps the karaage would be better served as a special snack with some dipping sauces, no rice, no coleslaw.
We ordered Buttermilk Chicken with Corn Frittata, Ricotta Pancakes, cappuccino & chai chocolate.
But the food was disappointing and this is why. On the menu, the buttermilk chicken is listed as fillet. But it came served with bones. Wtf? It wasn’t a mistake as the staff confirmed it always comes with bones. The other part of the dish was supposed to be a frittata. It was nothing like a frittata. It was more like a thin corn cake or corn pancake. It tasted good, but it wasn’t a frittata. In fact, the whole dish was a good one, but it just completely different to what you expect from the menu. They need to fix this.
The ricotta pancakes were cooked well and their flavour was good, but as with all pancakes we’ve had in Bandung they were a bit boring. Making pancakes taste fantastic is really difficult.
We’re being very hard on the food here because we expect the best from the Toby’s brand and we expect the best because of the prices. And we didn’t get it.
There is plenty of space for opening a laptop here and quite a few electricity sockets. Wifi worked well and there is a choice of either the cafe’s own wifi or the one for the entire mall. Both were fine even though we weren’t able to measure their speed.
If we compare Toby’s Estate to every other cafe in Bandung, it’s as good as or better than almost everything out there. But they have room to improve. And when they do, they will be the best in Bandung.
The food here is really good. A great selection of Western and Indonesian dishes as well as lite bights. I had the chicken burger and Susan had the Nasi Kenduri. The chicken burger was really good with perfectly crispy chicken, tasty mayo and crunchy hand cut chips. My only criticism is that the bun was dry and unpleasant. I think they make the buns in house, but they need to improve them because they’re not good. Making them soft would be a good start.
The Nasi Kenduri is savoury rice with mie goreng and a big fried chicken leg. Awesome! All of it was very Indonesian and very tasty.
The cold pressed juices are fresh and cheap. So cheap compared to what most people are charging these days in Indonesia for fresh juice.
Wifi clocked in at 8mbps down and 4mbps up when we were there and there are lots of places to open a laptop.
When you consider all these points, Kiputih Satu becomes one of my favourite cafes in all of Bandung. It’s absolutely brilliant. I just hope they continue to improve their buns.
There is an inside area with air conditioning and an outside area which cops the full brunt of the sun (or rain). I find the inside area to be quite hot because the front door always seems to be open, particularly when it’s busy and the staff are having to walking in and out with both hands full.
They’ve replaced their tiny one group machine with a massive 3 group machine. And to be fair, they seem to be pumping out a lot more coffees these days. The cappuccino I had was up there with the best you can get in Bandung. Very nice.
We also ordered food from next door at Kiri and it was not bad. Most people are going to be fairly happy with what they get. The Penne Verde was probably a bit too small for the price paid.
All in all, Mimiti hits the spot again and includes lots of electricity sockets, fast wifi and plenty of places to sit.
My cappuccino was a winner and up there with some of the good coffees in Bandung. Silky smooth fresh milk, strong coffee flavour made by a barista who knows what he’s doing. It is worth coming here for the coffee alone.
My nasi campur Bali was the best one I’ve had outside of Bali. The urap took me straight back to Bali and the sambal matah was deadly, in a good way.
Prices here are mixed. Coffee is well priced especially for the quality. But the food is more expensive than many other places in Bandung. But if you have the money, I think it’s money well spent when you come here. Still, it’d be nice if they could shave 5-10k off the nasi goreng.
The building is not air conditioned and there are people smoking. Luckily it’s big enough that you can avoid second hand smoke. The open air nature of the building means that the second floor does get very hot during the day, so we advise sitting downstairs.
The coffee is good. I had a very strong cappuccino and Susan had a Honey Bunny Sweetie. It was exactly like the one she had in
The tables here are good for working at and there are plenty of power points. Wifi clocks in at about 20mbps down and 4mbps up. It’s quite zippy and fast enough for most people.
With its fresh wooden interior and great coffee, Eiger Coffee Cihampelas is definitely recommended.
I had a large cappuccino here and it was really good. Susan had a peppermint tea and she appreciated that addition of some real mint leaves and a bit of honey. Too often in Bandung cafes, they just give you a tea bag and hot water. Here they don’t.
We also ordered some toast with jam and that was enjoyable. More than I expected.
The wifi here is quite fast at 18mbps down and 2mbps up and the tables each have their own power point. A good place to open the laptop and get work done.
I had a magic as well as a nasi goreng and wedges and all were good. The magic was super strong as I’d expect, but in the wrong cup/glass. Not sure what is going in Bandung, but a magic should be in a tulip cup, not a glass in order to get the “magic” milk to coffee ratio. Anyway, this was a fantastic coffee despite the wrong cup.
The food was pretty good too, but I really have to comment on the price — Rp49.000 for nasi goreng is extremely expensive, even in a cafe. So my advice would be to skip the food unless you’re extremely hungry. It’s just not worth it. To Ruckerpark: You’re nasi goreng is too expensive.
Come here for great coffee, fast wifi and a great work environment. There’s perhaps no better in Bandung at this moment.
